The Airbnb phenomenon has played a major role in bringing new visitors to Tel Aviv in this new age of affordable traveling abroad. Overtime, it has lost its romanticized concept of hosting foreigners in a local’s home and has transformed into a commercially operated platform that is reshaping the city. Housing is being taken off the market, raising rents, and fueling gentrification. Instead of attempting to halt the purveyor all together, the research challenges that by accepting the reality of home-sharing’s rapid spread, we can use it as a generator for integrated urban renewal. Urbnb is the proposed approach for accommodating the influx of tourist apartments within Tel Aviv Geddessian block clusters and using them to develop the relationship between tourists, locals, and the city to be able to benefit from one another.
